Another Successful Neighbourhood Day!
Arches Housing Launches 2026 Neighbourhood Days with Successful Outcome
The first of Arches' 2026 Neighbourhood Days was held yesterday, bringing together staff, tenants, and local representatives for a day of community clean-up and engagement.
The initiative, which rotates across neighbourhoods in the region to ensure equal access, saw every member of the Arches Housing team take part. The day focused on improving local environments through activities including litter picking, street cleaning, and removing weeds from pavements.
As part of the programme, skips were provided for public use, open not only to Arches tenants but also to tenants from the wider community. The effort forms part of the organisation’s ongoing commitment to tackling fly tipping and promoting cleaner neighbourhoods.
Despite cold and rainy conditions, turnout exceeded expectations. Volunteers worked efficiently, completing tasks ahead of schedule, with skips reportedly filled by midday.
Key Goals
Neighbourhood Days are rooted in several key goals, including but not limited to:
- Strengthening relationships with tenants
- Improving environmental standards, and enhancing community safety.
- Help reduce hazards such as trips and falls
- Supports local wildlife and long-term sustainability
The events are also designed to foster a sense of pride amongst residents, encouraging them to take ownership of their surroundings and contribute to maintaining them.
Feedback from the day was overwhelmingly positive. Tenants and residents, including those not directly associated with Arches Housing expressed appreciation for the effort to improve shared spaces. Some community members also joined in or supported the initiative by providing refreshments for volunteers.
Local representatives were also in attendance, including Councillor Misbah Chowdhury, who engaged directly with tenants by visiting homes and discussing local concerns. Councillors Mary Lea and Zahira Naz were also praised for their involvement and support.
Happy Tenants = Happy Arches
One Britnall Street resident described the initiative as a “great surprise,” adding that the team provided significant help in clearing rubbish and were “very approachable.” They said their family felt supported and appreciated the efforts made to improve the area.
Arches Housing described the day as a strong example of what can be achieved through collaboration between housing providers, local leaders, and tenants, with more Neighbourhood Days planned throughout the year.
