Community Comes Together For Another Successful Neighbourhood Day

On Wednesday 8 July, Arches Housing staff, partner organisations and tenants joined forces for another hugely successful Neighbourhood Day on the Wensley Estate, making a visible difference to the local community and demonstrating the power of working together.

The event saw all Arches staff roll up their sleeves and get involved, working alongside tenants to tackle a range of environmental improvements across the estate. The teamwork and enthusiasm on display throughout the day helped achieve an impressive amount in just a few hours.

Rubbish removal

One of the biggest successes of the day was the clear-out effort, with three skips being filled in quick succession as unwanted items and waste were removed from the neighbourhood. Tenants played a key role, speaking with staff, reporting any issues they were having and clearing out waste from their homes and gardens.

Sheffield City Council also supported the initiative, with council teams working on their areas of responsibility across the estate. Their involvement helped ensure improvements were made throughout the neighbourhood, creating a cleaner and more welcoming environment for everyone.

A heart-warming moment came when a trike discovered during the clean-up was donated to Pitsmoor Playground, giving the item a new lease of life and ensuring it could be enjoyed by local children rather than going to waste.

The hard work and community spirit shown by everyone involved did not go unnoticed. The event attracted media attention, with BBC Look North featuring the Neighbourhood Day on television and the Sheffield Star attending to report on the positive impact being made on the estate.

John Hudson said “We know that when people can struggle to fund disposal of items, the waste can often find its way out into the neighbourhood and causes a blight to our communities. Therefore we find that these days are important days to help support people to dispose of those to ensure that our communities are kept clean and safe and those shared spaces are as good as they can be for our residents”.

The day was a fantastic example of partnership working in action, bringing together tenants, councillors, housing staff and council colleagues with a shared goal of improving the local area. Thanks to the dedication and effort of all those involved, the Wensley Estate is now cleaner and tidier.

Thank you

A huge thank you goes to all Arches staff, tenants, Sheffield City Council colleagues and everyone else who contributed to making the day such a success. The commitment and hard work helped create an event that not only improved the appearance of the estate but also strengthened the sense of pride and community among local tenants.
