Radon Gas
What is Radon?
Radon is a natural gas that comes from the ground. It is found in small amounts across the UK and cannot be seen, smelled, or tasted.
Should I Be Worried?
No. The risk of radon gas in our homes is considered very low, and it is not generally a cause for concern for our tenants.
We regularly review information about our properties and follow national guidance to make sure our homes remain safe.
Are There Any Symptoms?
Radon does not cause any immediate symptoms, and most people will never experience any health effects from the low levels typically found in homes.
Long-term exposure to very high levels of radon over many years may increase the risk of lung disease. Symptoms of lung problems can include:
• A cough that does not go away
• Shortness of breath
• Wheezing
• Chest pain
• Frequent chest infections
These symptoms can be caused by many different health conditions and do not mean radon is present in your home.
What Can I Do?
You can help maintain good air quality in your home by:
• Opening windows regularly where possible
• Using extractor fans in kitchens and bathrooms
• Keeping air vents clear and unobstructed
• Reporting any ventilation problems to us
