Cost of living support
The Government has confirmed that there are currently no further nationwide Cost of Living Payments planned after the final £299 payment made in February 2024.*
However, support may still be available through local councils, energy suppliers, charities, and other schemes.
Extra Help Available includes:
Household Support Fund
The Household Support Fund continues to help vulnerable households with:
1. Food costs
2. Energy and water bills
3. Essential household items
4. Emergency living expenses
Support varies depending on the local council.
Many energy providers also offer:
1. Hardship grants
2. Payment plans
3. Emergency credit
4. Debt support schemes
Tenants can contact their local energy supplier directly to ask what support is available.
Water Bill Support
Tenants who are on a low income or claiming benefits, water companies may offer:
1. Social tariffs
2. Reduced bills
3. Help with arrears
4. Flexible repayment plans

Voluntary Action Sheffield provides information about local support services through its Cost of Living support resources, including:
1. Community hubs
2. Warm spaces and welcoming places
3. Food support

Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council - Cost of Living Support
Rotherham residents can now access cost of living support at locations right across the borough after Rotherham Council funded a new initiative through its UK Shared Prosperity Fund allocation.
Rotherham Council, RotherFed, Citizens Advice Rotherham, LASER Credit Union, and Voluntary Action Rotherham have partnered to develop a programme of support to communities most affected by the cost of living crisis, known as Open Arms.
The areas and venues where support will be available are as follows:
- Mowbray Gardens Library (every other Monday)
- Wath Library (every other Tuesday)
- Dinnington Library (every other Wednesday)
- Greasbrough Library (every other Thursday)
- Maltby Library (every other Friday)
- Dalton Parish Hall (every other Monday)
- St Paul’s Church in Ferham (every other Tuesday)
- Canklow Pavilion (every other Wednesday)
- Springwell Gardens in East Dene (every other Thursday)
- Liberty Church in Masbrough (every other Friday)

Support is available to help residents manage their finance.
Cost of living payments
You may be able to get a payment from the Government to help with the cost of living if you’re getting certain benefits.
If you’re eligible, you’ll be paid automatically in the same way you usually get your benefit.
You could get up to three different types of payment depending on your circumstances.
