As part of our Arches at 50 initiative, Paul Common - Chief Executive and Kirsty Waller - Resident Engagement and Communications Officer, had the pleasure of meeting the incredible staff at the Archer Project at their bustling location on Campo Lane.
We discussed our partnership with the Archer Project, which comes under the corporate partnership initiative ‘The Bridge’, and the vital work they do within the homeless community. Arches Housing aims to create an impact this year by raising awareness of the life-changing support the Archer Project offers to the community.
The Archer Project was established in 1990, with the primary goal of providing pathways for individuals to move away from homelessness and towards a meaningful and fulfilling life. They focus on building confidence, fostering independence, promoting well-being, and encouraging learning to help individuals recognise and alter negative behaviours.
During the tour of the facilities, we caught a glimpse of the largest reception room, which suffered fire damage in 2020. It is only through ongoing support and donations to the Archer Project that this once vibrant space, which fosters socialisation and provides a safe environment, can be restored to its former glory for service users.
Additionally, part of their work involves social enterprises like ‘Printed by Us’ and ‘Just Clean’. We were fortunate to visit Printed by Us, located in Orchard Square and with a retail presence in Chapel Walk. They offer paid employment opportunities at a real living wage. We toured the print shop and spoke with the team (as seen in the picture above), who explained that the print shop is a crucial part of the development process, allowing service users to acquire new skills and experience the dynamics of a professional work environment.
The Archer Project is a precious gem in Sheffield’s crown, and we take immense pride in supporting their admirable efforts during our 50th anniversary celebrations.
