Eight Community Researchers needed for Sheffield Area Hubs
For customers in the Burngreave/ Firth Park and Darnall / Tinsley area.
SY-NC (Sheffield Youth – Communities & Neighbourhoods) is an exciting new project looking at how we can reduce exploitation and build our youth service to respond to this. Dr Martin Glynn will be working with the project delivery team training to,
- assist our Community Researchers
- support them in identifying what their communities’ needs are
- explore what research processes and practices are effective in community based participatory research (CBPR).
Dr Glynn will also be supporting our Community Researchers throughout the project which is an exciting opportunity for anyone interested in exploring exploitation in their community and making a difference.For more information about SY-NC please see the Overview. - Manor & Arbourthorne - Manor & Castle Development Trust
- Burngreave & Firth Park - Reach Up Youth
Your role as a community researcher
You will help us to shape, guide, and develop this research to ensure the community are involved and the impact as big as possible. This role would ideally suit anyone who knows the area and,
- has links to the community
- is a good listener
- uses creativity
- enjoys meeting and talking to people.
The work will be 52 hours spread over the next 18 months and, so we can talk to as many people as possible, will include attending some events and activities during evenings, weekends, and school holidays.
Main activities
- You must want to complete training for this post which will be 2-hour sessions online spread over 12 weeks. This will be paid.
- Your job will be to attend the above training and any other workshops offered by Dr Martin Glynn around research skills and community engagement and we can offer you training in other areas as and if needed.
- As a team of Community Researchers, you will decide how you conduct your research along with the SY-NC teams. You will work closely with your fellow Community Researchers, the local Area Hub Co-ordinator and Youth Workers and the Core SY-NC Team based at VAS.
You will:
- Receive training to develop in research skills
- Design research methods as part of the project team
- Be fully supported and get a great experience of working on a community project
- Attend events and support the organisation with events if needed.
For this role you will have to:
- Live in one of the above areas and have a close connection to the area
- Care about the local area and want to make a positive difference
- Enjoy speaking with people of all ages and be able to put them at ease
- Be able to work as a part of a team, be reliable and motivated
- Want to learn new skills and be part of a community project
- Be willing to work flexibly, including some evening and weekend work
Hours of work
- Part-time sessional hours, flexible to suit project needs, 2 hours per week over 18 months.
- Hours will be discussed and agreed in advance of each activity, and you are not obliged to take the hours offered to you.
- Pay: £15.00 per hour. You must pay your own tax and NI contributions.
- This role could fit nicely around other part-time jobs and commitments.
