We have a legal obligation to ensure the electrical installation in your property is safe.
The way that we do this is we carry out an electrical inspection called an Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR) at least once every every 5 years. This helps to keep you, your family and neighbours safe.
The test can take between 2-4 hours to complete. We will check to make sure that the wiring, switches and sockets in your home are in good condition. This will include the light switches and fittings, and cooker wiring (but not the cooker itself, or any other items which belong to you such as lamps that plug in, toaster, kettle, etc).
If we find any faults we will repair them, and we will replace any broken items (such as faulty light switches).
We will also check that you have smoke detectors fitted and that they are working properly.
We will contact you with the date when your electrical safety check is due. If the appointment is not convenient, you must contact us as soon as possible so that we can rearrange your appointment.
We are required by law to make sure your electrical system is safe.
If we cannot gain access to your home to carry out your electrical safety check (for example if you miss your appointment, or fail to give us enough notice that you won’t be in), we will take all available steps in order for us to meet our legal obligations.
This can involve taking formal legal action against you allowing us to force entry to your property. We only do this as a last resort, where we have no choice and when this is the only way to complete the inspection that the law requires.
Any costs incurred resulting from taking formal action will be charged to you.
